Shopping & Tourist Attraction
Shopping in Salt Lake City can be as fun and varied as you desire. Department stores I recommend are Nordstrom’s, Meier & Frank (soon to become Macey’s), Dillard’s, Mervyns, J.C. Penney’s, Kohl’s, Stein Mart and Sears. Salt Lake also has many Shopko, Wal Mart and K-Mart stores scatterd around the valley. The area also has six fantastic shopping malls to please the fashion tastes of everyone. In the center of town we have the ZCMI and the Crossroads malls and scattered around the valley are Foothill Village, Fashion Place, Jordan Landing, South Towne Center, and Valley Fair malls. There are also several club membership required box stores of Sam's Club and Costco around the Salt Lake valley. Home decorating and improvement resources include R.C. Willey, Target, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Sutherlands and Lowe’s. For shoes may I suggest Famous Footwear, Payless ShoeSource and Nordstrom’s. Park City Outlet Stores have a large range of stores.
Weekend outings may be spent at unique villages and strip malls including Gardner Village, Thanksgiving Point, Gateway Plaza, Trolley Square and the Park City Outlet Stores.
There is a diversity of things to do and places to see
The world famous LDS Temple Square is the most popular attraction, hosting millions of visitors each year. The first park I would recommend visiting is This Is The Place Heritage Park. Much of the city’s history can be learned from the people portraying the life of the pioneer period. Across the street from this park is the Hogle Zoo, which has over 800 animals. The Utah Museum of Natural History is located on the University of Utah campus and The Children’s’ Museum of Utah imaginative and interactive exhibits housed in a historic building. The Clark Planetarium at the Gateway has an IMAX theater showing the wonders of the space
Antelope Island State Park situated in the Great Salt Lake is home to a buffalo herd and is part of Great Salt Lake State Park. At the base of the western Oquirrh Mountains is the world’s largest open pit mine, Kennecott Copper Mine. To the west are the desert and the Great Salt Lake, an inland salty lake where no fish species can live. Historic Park City is a thirty minute drive from Salt Lake. Eleven National Parks are within a day’s drive. In southern Utah are Bryce Canyon, Zion’s Canyon and Cedar Breaks, great places to visit for enjoyment of breathtaking natural beauty.
