Performing Arts
From early settlement days, Utahns have actively supported the performing arts. Based in Salt Lake City, Ballet West and Utah symphony and Opera perform throughout the state. The city is a stop-over for many Broadway shows. Downtown Salt Lake is home to the Ririe-Woodbury and Repertory Dance Theater, 20 art galleries and numerous ethnic festivals. The popular Utah Shakespearean Festival has put Cedar City on the “cultural map.” Park City, within a thirty minute drive, hosts The Sundance Film Festival, Park City Kimball Arts Festival and numerous concert events. The city has several professional theater companies including Pioneer Theatre Company at the University of Utah and Hale Centre Theatre.
